Important Tourist Development Council Grant Updates

The 2021-2022 St. Johns County Tourist Development Council Arts, Culture and Heritage Grant Program – which funds programming occurring between October 1, 2021 and September 30, 2022 - includes significant changes.

We believe the changes have streamlined the process, will make review and scoring more objective and easier to understand, and will simplify grant management and reporting. We understand that applicants may need additional assistance as they become familiar with the new guidelines and want to be sure you have all the information you need. This is a long email, but please read it carefully and please do not hesitate to contact us at for answers to any questions you may have.

Letters of Intent to Apply for the 2021-2022 grant cycle are due on or before May 17th

ONLY non-profit organizations with a primary purpose of providing year-round arts, culture and heritage programming for visitors / audiences must complete the very simple LOI which may be found HERE. Please remember that you must register as an organization on the grant portal before you can access the LOI and grant application.

As an example, a museum that is open year-round (such as the Lightner or Lincolnville Museum) would complete the Letter of Intent. A performing arts organization (such as the Limelight or First Coast Opera) that produces an annual calendar of events would also complete the Letter of Intent. An educational or governmental entity, a service organization or for-profit business that produces one or more special events but has a primary purpose that is NOT focused on cultural programming (such as the Chamber, a Rotary Club, etc.) would not complete the letter of intent.

The Grant Portal is open now and may be accessed HERE.

We encourage you to register for the grant portal and to review the application and complete guidelines, available HERE, before participating in one of the mandatory online grant workshops.

Registration for Mandatory Grant Workshops is available now.

Every organization or individual applying for a grant MUST participate in a grant workshop before submitting the grant application. All of this year’s workshops are virtual. Register HERE.

If none of the scheduled workshops are convenient for you, contact us at as soon as possible to request an alternate date and time.

Individual Grant Consultations

After you have completed a grant workshop, you may schedule an individual appointment to receive assistance with your grant application. A link to the consulting calendar will be provided at the conclusion of each grant workshop.

Application Deadline: June 25, 2021 at 5:00 pm

Grant applications must be submitted on or before 5 pm on June 25, 2021. No exceptions will be approved. Cultural Council staff will complete a technical review of each application immediately after receipt, and no later than June 30, 2021, and may contact you for additional information.

Grant Panel Review and Scoring

Grant applications will be reviewed by a panel appointed by the County during July. A public meeting of the Grant Panel, which applicants are encouraged to attend, will be scheduled soon. We expect that meeting to occur during the last week of July and will notify all applicants as soon as details are available.

Funding Recommendations

Funding recommendations, based on grant scores and available funds, will be submitted to the TDC in August. Final funding approval is completed as part of the Board of County Commissioners’ annual budget process. Grant award notifications will be made as quickly as possible, but the time of notification is dependent upon this process.

Grant Contracts

Each applicant accepting a grant award will enter into a grant contract with a projected execution date of October 1, 2021.
