The St. Johns Cultural Council presents opportunities for local artists to exhibit at the St. Johns County Administration Building:  February 1, 2022 – January 31, 2023

The St. Johns Cultural Council invites visual artists to submit their work for a group or solo exhibition opportunity at the St. Johns County Administration Building. Entrants must submit a coherent portfolio that is suitable for exhibition, along with an artist statement and a short bio for each artist participating in the proposed exhibition. The portfolio should consist of at least 10 and at most 25 images. If the proposal is for a group exhibition, at least three examples of work by each participating artist must be provided.  Submissions by photographers may include one or two series, provided that the two series are suitable for a joint presentation in a single exhibition. There are no generic, stylistic or thematic constraints; artists working in all genres and styles are welcome to submit their work.​

  • There will be up to four opportunities for exhibition, with a different artist or group of artists selected for each exhibition.
  • The first exhibition will be presented from about February 1 – April 30, 2022. Subsequent exhibitions will be for approximately 90-day periods following the initial exhibition.
  • Each selected artist or group of artists will receive a stipend of $2,000 to cover the costs of preparing their work for the exhibition, to include printing / mounting / framing of work.  In addition to the brick-and-mortar exhibition, the work of the selected artists will also be presented on a dedicated page of the Cultural Council website. The web page will include the artist statements and the biographies, along with links to artist websites or social media.
  • The Cultural Council will publish a catalogue for each exhibition and will prepare exhibition labels and signage and will promote each exhibition. An opening reception for each exhibition will be hosted by the Cultural Council.

Submission deadlines:

Opening Exhibition:  December 15, 2021
Exhibitions 2 – 4:    January 31, 2022​
Notification: All applicants will be notified within fifteen days after the submission deadline.
Submission rules and guidelines:

Please note that curating this exhibition will possibly involve selections from your portfolio as well as exhibition print size decisions to suit the exhibition space. Some of your submitted images may not be included in the final selection for the exhibition; the curator may also suggest size modifications to suit the gallery space.

This call for entries is competitive; entrants are not guaranteed an exhibition or online acknowledgement by submitting an entry. The selection of the curators is final.

Images must be submitted in .JPG, .JPEG, or .PNG formats. Links to files stored online may be provided.

File names should be in the format: lastname_title. File names of maximum 40 characters should only contain letters of the English alphabet and underscores. Titles may be shortened (please avoid very long file names), and they should be given without spaces in the file name. No spaces in the file names, please. (An image titled Beach Scene at Vilano by Jane Doe would have this file name: Doe_Vilano.jpg)

In the body of your submission e-mail please include

a) your name or the name of your group
b) telephone number
c) mailing address
d) your website address (if applicable)
e) titles of all included images with the corresponding file names
f) the actual or desired print size (in inches) of each image/ work

Attach a statement and brief bio for each participating artist.
Artists must be18 years or older and residents of St. Johns County, Florida.

By entering, entrants automatically accept the conditions of the competition; they grant the St. Johns Cultural Council a nonexclusive right to use and reproduce submitted works (with the name of the artist and the title of the work indicated) for promotional (e.g.: website and social media pages and the catalogue) and exhibition purposes. No royalties or compensation will be paid for these purposes. All copyrights and ownership of the works are retained by the artist(s). Entrants assume and accept all legal and financial responsibility for any infringement on the privacy rights or copyright of others, caused by creating or presenting their work in public.

The St. Johns Cultural Council will archive all exhibitions electronically, allowing us to promote exhibiting artists to curators and collectors as well as the viewing public.
