St. Augustine Orchestra (SAO) features talented local youth at their upcoming May 15, 2015 concert.
Performing Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor; soloists from the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra (JSYO) Philharmonic; Sarah Byres and William Harrington will be offered to share the stage with the St. Augustine Orchestra.
Sarah Byre, a junior at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, is a JSYO Philharmonic member and co-concertmaster at Douglas Anderson Chamber Orchestra. She is three-time All State Orchestra member and plans to pursue a career in music performance.
William Harrington, a sophomore at Ponte Vedra High School, is concertmaster of the Philharmonic Orchestra of JSYO. William is a 2015 finalist in the SJYO Young Artist Competition. In addition to his musical talents, William is an Eagle Scout and plans to pursue a career music and engineering.
Students studying strings under SAO’s Music Director William McNeiland leadership will showcase their talents performing a selection of bluegrass music. Mr. McNeiland has devoted most of the last year to help the fledging string program at St. Johns County Center for the Arts at R.J. Murray Middle School. SAO has a long standing commitment to youth programs including instruction, mentorship, and performance opportunities.
The spring Hidden Treasures concert will be held on May 15, 2015 in the beautiful gilded age ambiance of The Lightner Museum at 25 Granada Street in St. Augustine. The program will begin at 8:00 P.M., doors open at 7:00 pm. Tickets for the concert are $20.00 for adults, $5.00 for Students with ID, and free to Children 12 and under. Tickets are available in advance online at www.StAugustineOrchestra.org or at the door on the performance night.
SAO invites accomplished musicians to join the orchestra for the 2015/2016, which will begin with the September 6, 2015 performance at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre for the city’s 450th commemoration celebration.
