"Many Moods of Christmas"

December 1, 2015

A cornucopia of holiday favorites performed by the St. Augustine Orchestra and Jacksonville Masterworks Chorale, directed by guest conductor Dr. Mark Stallings

The St. Augustine Orchestra's holiday concert, under the direction of guest conductor Mark Stallings, features traditional, modern, and light classical selections.  The orchestra is delighted to welcome the Jacksonville Masterworks Chorale, which will perform both a cappella and accompanied by the orchestra.

Musical selections include lesser known works by Emile Schillo, Bob Chilcott, John Rutter, and André Thomas, holiday favorites by G. F. Handel, George Bizet, Leroy Anderson, and others, and a variety of carols.  The audience will be invited to participate in a sing-along featuring traditional holiday music known and loved by all.

Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Mark Stallings, has earned degrees from the University of Miami, and Florida Atlantic University.  He has worked in public schools, churches, and universities in Florida and Texas, including the University of Central Florida, where he served as Director of Choral Activities.  Mark is listed in Who's Who in Religion and Outstanding Young Men of America, and has served as a Minister of Music, choral director, and clinician in numerous venues.  He also describes himself as "an unknown baritone soloist"!

Now in its 25th year, and under the direction of Dr. Mark Stallings since 2002, the Jacksonville Masterworks Chorale comprises choral enthusiasts who love rehearsing and performing masterpieces of choral literature.  These performances have included works by composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Handel, Britten, Rutter, Bernstein, Thompson, Vaughan Williams and Duruflé.  The Chorale has appeared in numerous places of worship in the Jacksonville area, shared the stage with notable area choruses, and performed at Rollins College in Orlando for an American Choral Directors Association competition.

The St. Augustine Orchestra's Holiday Concert will be held Friday evening, 8:00 p.m., December 11, 2015, in the beautiful gilded age ambiance of The Lightner Museum, 25 Granada Street, in downtown St. Augustine.

The orchestra will also perform in the Flagler Auditorium, 5500 State Road 100, Palm Coast, Florida on Sunday, December 13 at 3:00 p.m.
