St. Augustine, Fla. — The second annual Women of Vision Power of the Purse® scholarship fundraising luncheon will take place on May 12 in Flagler College’s historic Ponce de Leon Hall. In addition to a popular silent auction of beautiful and unique purses, the event will be headlined by guest speaker Prissy Elrod, best-selling author of “Far Outside the Ordinary,” a memoir detailing the death of Elrod’s husband and her efforts to rebuild after the devastating loss. More than 300 women are expected to attend the luncheon.

Elrod’s address, “From Caterpillar to Butterfly—What I Learned When My Life Fell Apart,” will draw on material from her memoir. “Far Outside the Ordinary” has been described as “Steel Magnolias” meets “The Help.” Since the book was released, it has been profiled in multiple Florida and Georgia newspapers. Bloggers from California to New York have reviewed and shared the book with their readers, and Prissy has personally spoken, or skyped, with over 100 book clubs throughout the country. She says that her appearance at Flagler will represent “360 degrees,” as she began her college education when she  entered the inaugural class of Flagler College in 1968. Subsequently she attended Florida State University, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

“I recently had the privilege of meeting the delightful Prissy Elrod, who is an excellent speaker and will appeal to all audiences,” said Cathy Burkhardt, chairwoman of this year’s Power of the Purse luncheon. “She will leave you feeling motivated and inspired to accomplish your own dreams after you’ve listened to her speak.”

The Women of Vision Advisory Board of Flagler College works to raise funds for scholarships and educational opportunities for deserving female students at the College. To purchase tickets for the luncheon, or to learn more about the Women of Vision Fund and how to give, visit www.flagler.edu/wov.
