Saint Augustine Ballet is pleased to present the premier of their newest production, The Ballet of Peter Pan during the Romanza Festivale week. This classic story about growing up that never grows old will be performed at Lewis Auditorium on May 16, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets ($25 each) are available at www.saintaugustineballet.com or by calling 855-222-2849.
Audience members are encouraged to join in on the fun and dress up in pirate garb when they attend the ballet. The lobby will be part of the preshow entertainment. A band of pirates rounded up by the Saint Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum will greet audience members as well as a crocodile provided by the St. Augustine Alligator Zoological Park. Live mermaids and pirate musicians, Dirty James and Captain Barbossa, will also be on hand to get everyone in the mood for their trip to Neverland.
Saint Augustine Ballet’s guest artists are the Cuban trained, world-class dancers, Margit Rodriguez and Daet Rodriguez. Margit and Daet both studied ballet at the prestigious National Ballet School of Cuba in Havana and later danced with Cuba's Ballet de Camaguey, and the Teatro Centro de Arte-Leon Febres Cordero in Ecuador. Their dance careers have taken them all over the world and now onto the stage of Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College dancing the roles of Tinkerbell and Peter Pan. They also acted as choreographers for The Ballet of Peter Pan.
Local celebrity pirate, Captain William Mayhem, will be making a special appearance as Captain Hook. Also known as the Pirate Magician of Saint Augustine, Captain Mayhem is an experienced Las Vegas entertainer and current Pirate Magician in residence at the Saint Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum.
Tapping their way into the production as Captain Hooks band of rowdy pirates will be “Noise Complaint,” Florida's premiere professional tap ensemble led by head dancer and choreographer, Jenne Vermes.
New to Saint Augustine Ballet this year is Kimberly Taylor. She will be dancing the role of Mrs. Darling. Kimberly has been involved in the world of dance since she was five years old. She is an award winning choreographer and dancer and a well-respected judge in the world of ballroom dancing.
The role of Wendy will be danced by Kali Lee, the fourteen year old daughter of Matt and Shani Lee. She is a familiar face to audiences of Saint Augustine Ballet. “I’m really excited to be part of this new show, “exclaimed Kali. “I have always loved the beauty and gracefulness of ballet.” Kali recently participated in the Youth America Grand Prix, an annual ballet competition open to dance students 8-19 years old. Kali has been studying ballet under Luis Abella at Abella’s School of Dance for five years.
The of cast of 40 student dancers, local celebrities, and professional guest dancers will perform The Ballet of Peter Pan on the stage of Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College located at 14 Granada Street in Saint Augustine. Saint Augustine Ballet is proud to be a participating member of this year’s Romanza Festivale taking place May 8 through May 17, 2015.
