Renowned international artist and St. Johns County resident Dr. Susanne Schuenke will debut a large assortment of her artwork at an opening reception on Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 8:15-9 a.m., in the Rotunda area of the St. Johns County Administration Building prior to the regularly scheduled St. Johns County Commission meeting. The seven-week showing is sponsored by the St. Johns Cultural Council.
As one of the largest art displays in the building’s nine-year history, “The Art of Susanne Schuenke” will be on display from Aug. 1-Sept. 21. Six of the works have measurements between 9 and 12 feet. The Aug. 1 reception will include food and juice.
The public is invited for both the opening reception and visits during business hours (8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday) at the Auditorium, located at 500 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine, Florida 32084. The exhibition marks the first time that artwork has been displayed on the upper level of the building’s Rotunda as visitors enter the auditorium. Visitors are reminded that they must pass through a security station to reach the building’s main corridor.
Guided tours through the exhibition by Dr. Schuenke are planned for Aug. 9, 16 and 30 from 3-4 p.m.
Born in Dusseldorf, Germany, Dr. Schuenke was educated in Cologne and London and earned her doctorate at the University of Cologne in 1986.
