St. Augustine-based artist and Flagler College alumnus Andrew Scott Wilson will be showing select paintings on Friday, September 30, 2016. This pop-up art show will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at YIELD Design headquarters on 25 Palmer Street in St. Augustine.

Titled Just Being Honest: A Dialogue on Life and Imperfection, the show will explore the beauty and struggles of being an imperfect human, being vulnerable, and being alive in this world. This show marks the first time Andrew’s works will be on display since making a shift from teaching middle school art in St. Johns County, to pouring his entire self into creating his own art. It also marks the first time Andrew’s works will be paired with words by his wife Sarah.

“This show is of a new season and in a way signifies the start (not just for me) for us,” said Wilson. Ultimately this evening offers a chance for Andrew and Sarah to speak to the community on matters close to their hearts through painted works accompanied by written stories.

“My hope with this show is to have people interact with art and its meaning in a way that may not always occur,” said Wilson. “It’s not my goal to turn heads with beautiful work, but rather have the meaning of a work resonate with an individual.”

Wilson is known for painting big, and YIELD’s space allows for such. In addition to sizable works on canvas, Wilson will display a number of smaller studies on paper, each of which will be available for name your own price purchasing, with the intention that everyone is able to take home a work and story that speaks to them. Wilson will also have large fine art prints of his signature piece, “The Hand That Feeds” available for sale.

About Yield: When seeking a local spot boasting large walls and creative energy, YIELD’s new home base off of West King was an obvious choice. Co-founded by fellow Flagler alumnus Andrew Deming, and Rachel Gant, YIELD independent design house focuses on thoughtfully designed and sustainably manufactured products and home-wares. Launched in San Francisco, YIELD relocated to St. Augustine in 2014, and this summer, moved into a larger space to house their operations.

Beverages + Bites: Local coffee and espresso bar, The Kookaburra, will have a pop-up bar, offering a limited beverage menu, featuring signature espresso drinks, plus select beer and wine. Additionally, St. Augustine Vegan Hot Dog Cart will be serving up specialty vegan hot dogs.
